Most Historians comment on this day as the saddest day in the history of the world. Today is unfortunately the 145th anniversary of Stonewall Jackson’s death. After the illustrious victory at the Battle of Chancellorsville, Stonewall Jackson was shot by his own men. In his recovery, he contracted pneumonia and died eight days later.

His last words of, “No no, let us cross the river, and rest under the shade of the trees” will live on forever.

It is on this day May 2nd, in the year of our Lord 1863 that Thomas Johnathan ‘Stonewall’ Jackson was shot by his own soldiers at the Battle of Chancellorsville.  This date has been argued by historians as one of the worst and saddest days in the history of the world.
